Follow Up of the Day: Tommy Jordan, the former Marine who made waves last week with a video of himself putting his own laptop out of its misery, was visited by Child Protective Services officials as well as local police officers in the wake of his Internet stardom.
The Child Services agents reportedly interviewed the Stanly County, NC man and his daughter separately, but took no action. The police, however, did have something to say to Jordan: “Kudos.”
“I actually had a “thank you” from an entire detectives squad,” Jordan wrote in a Facebook post published over the weekend. “And another police officer is using it in a positive manner in his presentation for the school system. How’s about those apples? Didn’t expect THAT when you called the cops did you?”
Many people apparently called to ask Albermarle police what was being done about the angry dad, but were told there was nothing that could be done as Jordan lives outside city limits, and therefore outside police jurisdiction.
Speaking with Channel 9, a Stanly County Sheriff’s Office spox said Jordan broke no laws, and an investigation would not be launched.

I have such low opinion of police officers that I didn’t expect them to actually do anything about it, but could they not thank this guy and use his example in classrooms?
I’m torn between “this is sadly unsurprising” and “but he’s a fucking liar with a documented history of twisting and manipulating the truth and the words of others so who even knows”
You know what, it’s too late now, but I’m gonna call that police station and ask if that’s true tomorrow, and why they want to congratulate a man on being a child abuser
I mean they most likely won’t answer me but I just need to ask for my own sanity
Where exactly is the evidence in this video that this guy is being a child abuser? Is everyone in the world really that afraid to punish their kids when they are completely disrespectful and not following rules their parents clearly laid out for them ahead of time? Is it because he used a gun to destroy the computer? I’d bet if he just threw it out or gave it away, no one would care. But shooting a LAPTOP is not child abuse. It’s just a more intense way to take it away from her, and very clearly show that she is going to have to save the money to buy her own. I babysat for 10 years…and though I had a lot of families who had great kids, there were just as many with just a bunch of brats. You know why? Because when they did something wrong they never got punished. At best they were told, “Don’t do that” and then were allowed to go back to watching tv or playing with their toys. Teenagers need discipline, too, and as long as he’s not laying a hand on her or causing emotional trauma, I see nothing wrong.
